Puget Sound Keepers Alliance helps keep Lake Union clean with aid from the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association

Puget Soundkeepers volunteer to clean up Lake Union

More than 200 volunteers arrived at South Lake Union Park at 8:30 am on Saturday, May 13th to clean up the lake. After a send-off from Penny LeGate of KIRO TV, they took to the water and shores to pick up trash. At least sixty boats, both large and small participated. Volunteers were rewarded with clam chowder from Duke's and coleslaw from Agua Verde on the vessel Virginia V.

Northwest Yacht Brokers supported the effort by providing the BMI style docks that you see in the pictures. As you can imagine not having the docks makes it difficult for the boats to empty the trash they have picked out of the water.

"NYBA's contribution of docks for the Lake Union Sweep really made it a success" said, Chris Wilke from Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, the event organizers. "We thank you and are very grateful that this was made available. We hope to work with you again next year."
