Called the backbone of the organization, NYBA’s Code of Ethics was written to ensure fair, professional business relations, conducted at the highest level of integrity. The first benefit of joining the NORTHWEST YACHT BROKERS ASSOCIATION is to join a professional network of your peers who have agreed to conduct business with the same high standards. Non-binding mediation is a proven way to settle grievances between brokers or between brokers and clients.
Nearly 30 years of quality floating shows has created the tradition of the Lake Union Boats Afloat Shows being the place to shop when buying a boat - whether sail or power, new or used, a large mega yacht or a small runabout perfect for gunkholing in the bountiful waters of the Pacific Northwest. As a NYBA member, you will realize significant savings on your show exhibitor fees and have the opportunity to meet the most qualified buyers in the region. Shop and compare: The NYBA-hosted shows continue to offer the best value in the Northwest.
Through NYBA, your concerns are being uniquely represented on the federal, state and local levels. In a three-year project, the NYBA worked with the Washington State Department of Revenue on the production of the “Guide for Vessel Brokers & Dealers.” It explains in detail what brokers and dealers need to know to comply with the complex state tax code. An ongoing project for the association, we continue to work with DOR on tax updates for members we also work closely with the Department of Licensing and other regulatory agencies.
This assists members of the association in knowing that their paperwork is in order such as filing taxes or putting together a complicated boat transaction. The Standard Brokerage Forms include: “Vessel Purchase & Sale Agreement,” “Listing Agreement” and the “Cooperative Brokerage Agreement.” Need a “Report of Sale” form? How about a “Non-Resident Exemption Certificate”? The NYBA’s packet of Standard Tax Forms contains the documents needed to comply with state regulatory agencies.
Yacht brokers now have a new benchmark for measuring their skills, abilities and performance. Boat sellers and buyers will soon be in a better position to select qualified, competent yacht brokers. Demonstrates your commitment to the profession by becoming certified, joining a national network of your peers and colleagues. CPYB certification sets you apart as a leader in your field. And you save money as a member of the NYBA. Association members qualify for a $500 savings on their national certification fees.
Whether it’s the Ethics Committee, the Boat Show Committee, the Meetings & Programs Committee or the Brokers Certification Committee, brokers and dealers make up the structure of the association and make the decisions on important NYBA issues. And, supported by the NYBA professional staff, they produce results such as, “Elements of a Good Purchase Survey” and the “Vessel Purchase and Sales Agreement”.
Periodic e-newsletters keep members informed on important issues affecting their businesses and the industry. Useful, relevant information, association business and other key elements to operating a successful business are passed along via regular communiqués to members. Flash updates, important notices and monthly announcements are part of a communications program designed to bring the professional yacht broker of the Pacific Northwest all the latest, up-to-date information.
The association offers you the opportunity to network with your peers and business associates, providing you with the chance to continually explore new job possibilities, to expand co-brokering opportunities and to enhance business relationships. As a NYBA member you have shown your desire for professional integrity; other members will note and pursue that professionalism when looking for new brokers or when making decisions about with whom they will co-broker.
