Seattle Yacht Club Opening Day Boat Parade, Saturday, May 4, 2013

Swaying palms and flower leis will be a part of this year’s theme “Hawaiian Magic” for the Opening Day Boat Parade on Saturday, May 4, 2013.  Seattle Yacht Club is pleased to host their 93rd annual parade on the Montlake Cut.  Leading this colorful celebration are Admiral Tyler Ellison, Admiralette Gina Purdy, and Vice Admiral Michael Carrousino.

The Opening Day Parade starts at noon with the blast of a cannon signaling the raising of the Montlake Bridge and whistles blowing.  This has become the nation’s largest regional celebration of water, spring and the opening of boating season.  Opening Day in Seattle is a family affair.  If tradition is honored, there will be sunshine, breezes and, maybe, a few showers.

The Press is invited to view the crew races and parade from the SYC Press Boat

Our boat departs the dock immediately after the 0900 Commissioning Ceremony.  This offers up-front photo opportunities and information about parade entries.  We can get you out or back to shore via our Marshall boats if unable to stay for the entire event.  This is by reservation only.

The canoe and rowing competitions are the first events.  This year the racing will be highlighted by Ivy League teams from Dartmouth and Cornell competing against the University of Washington in the highly coveted 27th year of the Windermere Cup.
