NW Yacht Brokers Association presents $25,000 gift to Lake Union Park Campaign
SEATTLE, Nov. 9, 2007 – The Northwest Yacht Brokers Association (www.nwyachtbrokers.com), a regional trade group of over 340 recreational boat brokers and dealers, presented a $25,000 gift to the Lake Union Park Capital Campaign during a ceremony Thursday morning on the site of the future park on South Lake Union in Seattle.

The Northwest Yacht Brokers gift benefits the Seattle Parks Foundation $20 million capital campaign for the $29.6 million Lake Union Park Project to develop 12 acres of green space in the heart of the city into a waterfront park on Lake Union. The campaign, which has raised $18 million in private funds to date - 90 percent of its goal, is expected to conclude at the end of December.
“The success of the Lake Union Park Capital Campaign is a great statement for Seattle that our community has embraced open space and water access on this scale,” said Patrick Kelley, President of the Northwest Yacht Brokers Association and Lake Union business owner. Kelley presented the check to Karen Daubert, Executive Director of the Seattle Parks Foundation, Kimberly Bowen, Deputy Director of the Seattle Parks Foundation and Jerry Dinndorf, Member of Lake Union Park Campaign Steering Committee.
“It’s very unique for a project of this scale to have the majority of its funding come from individuals and businesses,” he said. “Lake Union Park is an important investment in Seattle’s future. The project wouldn’t be possible without this kind of voluntary participation.”
When completed by 2010, Lake Union Park will become a regional destination by providing Seattle with water and green space access, connecting Seattle's neighborhoods, and celebrating the cultural, industrial, and maritime heritage of the city and the region.
“It is great how the Northwest Yacht Brokers association has recognized the significance of Lake Union Park to Seattle and the region has chosen to showcase their commitment with this gift,” said Kimberly Bowen, Deputy Director of the Seattle Parks Foundation.
The Northwest Yacht Brokers Association, which annually puts on the September Lake Union Boats Afloat Show and is a partner with the Northwest Marine Trade Association in the January Seattle Boat Show, has 44 member businesses around Lake Union.
The public can participate in the Lake Union Park project by making an online donation at www.seattleparksfoundation.org.
